Tim Hudson

Deputy Sheriff Tim Hudson was shot and killed while pursuing two robbery suspects along I-10.

The two suspects were cousins who had escaped from a Kansas prison. They were en route to Mexico when they stole $22.50 in gas from a station in Bakersfield, Texas. As he was attempting to pass them to stop them with a rolling road block, one of the suspects shot him with a .357 caliber handgun.

Both suspects were eventually apprehended. One was sentenced to death and the other was sentenced to life. The suspect who was sentenced to death was executed on May 16, 2007.

Deputy Hudson was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of WWII and had served with the Pecos County Sheriff's Department for 30 years. He was survived by his wife, daughter, and son. He was due to retire in nine months.

Tim Hudson was my Paw paw. I was 7 when we lost him, and had only met him when I was 3. I have fond memories of those few short years with my Paw paw. My dad who has now passed carried his memory his entire life and often told us stories about his dad. I continue to tell those stories as well as my memories with my children. Tim Hudson will no doubt, live in memories for many more generations to come. He was a man that has now taught generations about love and acceptance and how family comes in so many different forms. My dad and his sister were adopted, this love and acceptance lead to my dad’s love and acceptance of me, and I could t have hand picked a better dad. I owe that to Tim Hudson. My dad taught me about true, unconditional love, acceptance, and to be a non judgmental and non violent human. I owe the person that I have become to these men. Two men, lost entirely too soon, taught me so very much.
