Sergeant Michael Hunt died from injuries suffered when he was struck by a truck on June 23 while directing traffic in front of the Convention Center during the Republican National Convention.

Sergeant Hunt was a U.S. Army veteran of World War I and had served with the Philadelphia Police Department for 33 years. He had been widowed and was survived by his seven children. He was a native of County Mayo, Ireland.

Dear Great Grandpop,

I was just randomly talking to my husband Chris about whether or not anyone in either of our families was a priest, and I was trying to remember whether my dad’s relative Michael Hunt who was tragically killed was a priest or a police officer. So I googled… what are the odds that I would look it up and find randomly that you died on exactly this date 76 years ago?! I will enroll you in Masses.
