Special Agent Jay W. Seale

I served with Jay in the 82nd Airborne from 1984 to 1987 in Bravo Company, 1st Battalion, 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment. We became roommates and great friends, sharing many memorable times during those three years.

After leaving active duty, we lost touch. In the late '90s, I decided to try to track him down and reached out to his last known employer—the DEA office in Los Angeles. A staff member there informed me of his tragic accident. It’s been over 40 years since we served together, but I still think of him often and reflect on the great times we shared together.

A few years ago, I had the honor of taking my family to Arlington, where we visited his marker and paid our respects to a great friend and a dedicated veteran. It was there I learned, for the first time, that his full name was Jay Wesley Seal. Coincidentally, my son’s name is Wesley Darrow Young. It fills me with pride knowing my son shares a name with someone I’ve always admired and looked up to.

May you rest in peace, Jay. I hope we have the chance to reunite when the time is right.
