Fred Louis Klenk

Patrolman Fred Klenk succumbed to injuries sustained on November 23rd, 1935, when he was struck by a drunk driver while directing traffic at the railroad crossing at Spring Grove Avenue and Vine Street in St. Bernard, Ohio.

The driver fled the scene but was arrested several hours later.

Patrolman Klenk suffered a compound fracture of the leg. Complications developed and he underwent several operations. He remained hospitalized from the time of the incident until his death.

A witness took down the license number of the car and notified the police. The driver was arrested and fined $75.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 76th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
