Policeman Edward Kunz was shot and killed by one of two men he arrested when he caught them unloading stolen whiskey at 1931 Russell Street. He walked them to Old York Road and Venango Street where he used a call box to call for a patrol wagon. Both suspects bolted from him and ran. One turned and shot him. Both were apprehended and charged with murder.
Policeman Kunz was a seven-year veteran of the force.
