George Leonard

Marshal George Leonard was shot and killed at the Cameron Depot while questioning two men about a burglary that had occurred the previous night.

One of the men gained control of Marshal Leonard's service revolver, shot him twice, and escaped. The suspect was later captured in Kansas.

After two trials, the suspect was convicted of murder and sentenced to death. His sentence was later commuted to life. In 1902 evidence was discovered, creating doubt about his conviction. On August 28, 1910, he was pardoned by Governor Herbert S. Hadley.
