Officer Henry Mailloux was shot and killed during a traffic stop at the 1200 block of College Ave at 9:00 a.m.
The license plates matched those of a vehicle used in an armed robbery the night before. Officer Mailloux's backup officer arrived just moments after he had stopped the vehicle, but Officer Mailloux had already been shot. He was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his wounds.
The suspect was apprehended, convicted of capital murder, and subsequently executed in 1985.
Officer Mailloux had served with the Fort Worth Police Department for six years. He was survived by his wife, daughter, mother, and father.
