Patrolman Frank Mastrangelo and Detective Norman Eddy were killed in an aircraft accident while returning to Fort Lauderdale in the agency's aircraft. The aircraft crashed into the Everglades.

Patrolman Mastrangelo had been with the Fort Lauderdale Police Department for ten years. He was survived by his wife.

Det. Norm Eddy had been a MI. State Trooper prior to joining Ft. Lauderdale PD. An outstanding officer and dedicated to the job. He was special to me, he was my big brother. He was responsible for me becoming a Trooper in MI. Also. He is greatly loved and missed everyday.
