Patrolman Paul McManis was killed in an automobile crash on State Route 269, five miles north of Bellevue while responding to another crash.
The patrol car was clipped while passing another vehicle which did not signal that they were making a left turn. The patrol car spun around, and both officers were thrown from the car. Patrolman McManis was killed instantly. The other officer suffered serious injuries.
Patrolman McManis had served with the Ohio State Highway Patrol for five months and was stationed at Bellevue.
