Deputy Sheriff Jack Miller succumbed to a gunshot wound sustained the previous day while serving a narcotics search warrant at a home in the 1400 block of West 55th Street.

One suspect was killed in the ensuing shootout. A woman and a 17-year-old boy were arrested at the scene and charged with murder.

Deputy Miller had served with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department for 12 years. He was survived by his wife and two children.

Wanted to let the Miller family & friends that although his Poly #22 was retired and Jersey framed in gym, over the years none remained…I’ve been working for many many decades, 6-7 principals to find where it all went, including the Capt’s Trophy and JBM Scholarship. With help from my forever buddy Sgt Alan Green, we worked with the admin, LAUSD and Architects to insure his Memorial, though sadly moved with the reconstruction there, would still be intact and placed in a proper place for all to see.
