Sergeant Milliron was shot and killed after he and three other officers raided a disorderly house on Van Blarcom Hill in West Nashville. The suspect inside began to argue with Sergeant Milliron and shot him in the back of the neck with a shotgun. Another officer returned fire and seriously wounded the suspect.
The suspect was convicted of voluntary manslaughter and sentenced from two to 10 years.
Sergeant Milliron had been with the agency for 10 years and was survived by his wife, son, and daughter. His fellow officers referred to him as the most fearless officer in the department. In 1924 his son became a Nashville police officer.
