Leonard Russell Morris

Patrolman Leonard Morris succumbed to gunshot wounds sustained two years earlier while chasing a suspect on Tazewell Avenue.

The suspect was able to elude Patrolman Morris by hiding behind trash cans. As Patrolman Morris passed by, the suspect opened fire, striking him in the back. The man was sentenced to ten years in prison.

Patrolman Morris was survived by his wife and three children.

Patrolman Russell,
On today, the 90th anniversary of your death I would just like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice-not just for your Community but for our Country as well when you served with the U.S. Army in Europe fighting the Germans during World War I as a member of the 29th “Blue and Gray” Division which the 116th Infantry Regiment was a part of. And to your Family and loved ones, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy.
