Officer Lavon New succumbed to injuries from a motorcycle accident he was involved in two months earlier.

Officer New was attempting to catch up to a vehicle on North Golden State Boulevard when a vehicle tried to turn in front of him onto Geer Road. Officer New's motorcycle struck the rear axle of the car, tearing it away. He was transported to Emanuel Hospital and then transferred to St. Joseph's Hospital in Stockton. He succumbed to his injuries while undergoing surgery.

Officer New had been with the Turlock Police Department for four months. He was survived by his wife and 6-year-old son.
