Reflections for Officer William Whitfield

Today is Monday February 23, 2023 and as I watch the funeral procession of a recently fallen Beech Grove Police Officer - I stumbled upon this page. I was wondering how many public safety officers have passed away in the line of duty - and was astonished that there were over 500.
As I searched several stories of fallen heroes, your story caught my eye. A True-Trailblazer indeed. Officer Whitfield - I am so sorry that your murder has never been solved. You gave 12 years to the department, to which no doubt you endured racism and unwanted feelings of your presence to serve -but yet you endured, and sacrificed your life to serve, honor and protect.
I just want to say, "Thank You!" I wish people would understand that the Lord has placed Angels as yourself on this earth to help and protect. The fact that you were concerned enough to inquire about a suspicious looking man, who may or may not have been up to no-good, by doing so, you may have thwarted harm being done to someone else.
Thank you, Officer Whitfield! And I hope and pray that you have received a golden crown!

While your assailant may have never been caught, he surely faced a higher court and higher authority at a later time in a different place.
Rest in peace always and please know that no passage of time will ever erase your sacrifice as you will always be remembered by your LE brethren.

The IPD's 90th Recruit Class was largely responsibile for contributions for the proper headstone for Officer Whitfield. It was in the fall of 1998. I was in that class and it was our class project. All 32 of us contributed to the cause for this deserving officer.
