Reflections for Corporal James Arvil Lamance

It was an honor and a priviledge to have served with Corporal Lamance in Whitewright. I served as a reserve officer there for four years, and rode with Jim on many occasions. Jim was very easy going, enthusiastic, and dedicated to his service. While others were leaving the department for more money, better equiptment, etc., Jim was always the one to say "I'm proud to be here, and wouldn't wanna go anywhere else". It was a shock to learn that he had been killed in the line of duty. All of us who were there have been touched by this terrbile tragedy. Jim maybe gone from this earth, but his memory will live on in the hearts and minds of all of us who knew him best. I again would like to extend my condolences to Jim's family, and may God bless you all.

Patrolman Timothy Green
Gainesville Police Department

Corporal Lamance, your watch is over and our department salutes you and your tour. May you watch over the gates of heaven, as you watched over the citizens of Whitewright, Texas.

Hidalgo County Sheriff's Department, Texas

Jim Lamance was one of the most courteous police academy students that we have ever had in my 30 years as director at the Texoma Regional Police Academy. From the very first day that he entered my office wanting an application I was impressed with his manners. He got started late in our profession (50 years old) but he was full of excitement and honored that we would allow him to join the academy class. He was very humble and thankful to get the chance.A very good person that will be missed by his community and this profession. Jerry Bardwell, Police Academy Director, Texoma Regional Police Academy, Denison,Tx. Something of interest!!! The last police officer to be killed in Grayson County(before Jim Lamance) was Sgt D.C.Arnold of the Sherman, Texas police department. Mr Arnold was killed December 23,1969 around 3 or 4 am in the morning. Jim Lamance was killed 30 years to the day after Mr Arnold and approximately 2 hours earlier.
