Reflections for Police Officer Michael Patrick Gordon
Michael,
Reading through the reflections left here for you I can tell how very special, loved and missed you are by everyone. I know you and my son are probably together along with all your other brothers and sisters and you'll never be forgotten.
I was reading your Dad's reflections and Mr. Gordon, your right, we'll never get over the loss of our sons, it's something people don't understand unless they walk in our shoes, also I know what you mean about keeping every little item..... they are truely treasures to us parents. Thank you for having such a wonderful son, I'm sorry I never met him.
Michael, keep watch over your family, as I know you are and always will.
With deepest respect,

Dearest Michael...Another year...in which to wish you...on your name day...God's blessings...as we celebrate...the feast of St. Michael the Archangel...who is the patron saint...and protector of police officers.
Keep watch over your family. You Dad has it right...you never get over the loss of a child. Life for a parent can never be the same.
I know you are thought about...and carried in their hearts...each and every day. You are loved...you are missed...and you are not forgotten.
You are all in my daily prayers.

Michael,
Fall is here once again, leaves are beginning to turn colors and fall from the trees. Halloween is just around the corner. I still remember you taking your son Cullen trick or treating in that costume you bought him. Tweety Bird. The costume still exists. Believe me and I am not alone as I've talked to others about this, material things that we have that were yours or purchased by you prior to losing you we would have given away or thrown them out and not think about it. Now, these items are like little treasures to us.
Your two boys are real jocks now. Both are playing on the school football team, both are also on the same soccer team. Malik will be involved in a traveling basketball team. Funny, Cullen keeps asking us when will he get bigger and we tell him how you were small like him and all of a sudden, boom, you shot up to 6'5". I went to their football game the other day, there was Cullen, even with his equipment on he didn't look very big but he'll grow. Malik is a pretty big kid now, plays both offense and defense on the line. Sports are good for the both of them, hopefully it will help them keep thier grades up because the teachers must sign off saying they are passing for them to play.
It's been over six years and every day is a challenge for me to get through. Some people just have no clue about losing a child and think you just pick up and go on with your life like nothing happened. I am going on with my life but it will never be the same. Well, I better end, keep watch over everyone for me. We love and miss you.
Love,
Dad

I am just sitting here this morning thinking of you and your family as I read the posts your dad has left on Renee's page, like you he is such a true hero. I know that the pain in your parents heart is so strong and no words can ease that pain. Officer Gordon, I will never forget you and the true hero that you are...

Officer Gordon,
I'm so sorry I missed your EOW date. I've been reading your messages left by family and friends and know how deeply their pain runs. Please continue to watch over them. Your Dad is such a special man, he never fails to reach out to me on my son Michael's, page. I know your proud of him and your Mom and someday I hope to meet them in person to thank them for how they've helped me......just by messages and letting me know I'm not alone. Rest in peace Hero, your a very special man.

Michael ~
I am thinking of you and your family as yet another year has begun without you here. 6 years is such a long time for you to be gone, so many memories and milestones have passed without you, but it is also just a blink of an eye. No amount of time can ease the pain of your family, epecially of your mom and dad, so please stay with them and comfort them as they do their best to continue on without you.
Mr. and Mrs Gordon ~
I know nothing will ever fill the void in your hearts, but hopefully the thoughts and prayers of those who care will help soften the pain. Your son was a hero, and he will never be forgotten.
With much love,

Michael,
Missed the day, but not the heartache, that never changes for your family as it does not for ours. Time, time spent remembering, missing, longing for the ones we love and need always. Thank God for memories. Thank you again for the man and were and are. It is so obvious. St. Michael keep you and your family.
Lovingly,

Dear Officer Gordon:
"Greater love has no man than this that he lay down his life for his friends." It's no wonder that you were filled with love for others because its so obvious from your parent's reflections that you were filled with the love they gave to you. Thank you for choosing to protect and serve all of us. It's been six years and we will never forget.

Sorry for missing the aniversary of your EOW yesterday, but I was out of town and away from my computer. You were remembered as I have grown very close to you thru the writings of your family and friends even though I did not personally know you(I wish I had). I find myself visiting your site almost as much as I do Jason's. I pray your family finds the peace they are looking for and I am looking forward to meeting you one day. Until we meet!!!!

Thinking of you today and your family. I am so sorry that your parents have to remember this day, but unfortunately it is one they will never forget. They are such good people but God needed you and knew that they would be strong enough to handle this. In times like this you really have to believe it happened for a reason, even though it just doesn’t seem fair. To lose a child is just the most awful thing to have to go though, and I hope I never have to know what they are feeling. Many people miss you. Take care.

Mike, Today is a very hard day for our whole family - six years and the grief still runs deep for us. You were well represented at the cemetery today. Family, Riverside PD and CPD friends came to remember you. We toasted you with a shot of Jameson that your brother Bob brought - he thought we should all take a swig out of the bottle but thankfully John Martinez had some disposal cups in his car.
Everyone had a Michael story - first time I heard you beat your brother John at some video game and he gave you the money we had given him to go back to college. Thankfully you felt bad for him and gave him back the money.
You are loved and missed. Mom

Michael,
A number of your friends and their families came to your grave site today to honor you. Everyone was in a big circle around your grave and one by one we were able to tell a short little story about you. Believe me, some great stories were told that I didn't hear before. Also, a toast of Jameson was made and we left one for you. I want to thank everyone for coming out as it means allot to use that you are remembered. Watch over all of your loved ones and close friends and their families. We love and miss you.
Love,
Dad

Dearest Mike,
Well it has been six years since you left your family and friends, and it seems like only yesterday. The days go into weeks and the weeks into months then years, still the hurt remains as if your life has just been taken. It will always be that way for the ones you had to leave behind. Mike each day you will be one of my special Hero's. First for the sacrifice you gave, the service for your Country and fellow man. Thank you Mike for all you did.
I know how very much your family misses you, and yes I still look at your picture every day. Thank you Mike for the friendship you left for me. Your passing sent very special people into my life for which I will be forever grateful. Your Mom has become my dearest friend. When I am feeling low, and I can hear her voice on the other end of the phone, I know that everything is going to be alright. She can lift my spirit's and have me laughing in just a few minutes. Or crying with me. Who would have ever thought a shoulder could reach all the way from Darien,Il. to Arden, N.C.? But ours does.
Mike forgive me for not stoping by more often, but there has just been so much going on lately. I guess you have met my brother Sam by now. He arrived in Heaven on June 16. So I know that you and Jeff have been showing Him around Heaven. Hope there is a Waffle House there, as He went to one in Spartanburg, S.C. every morning and night.
Mike thank you again for the Hero you are, for the man you were. Thank you for serving our Country and the City of Chicago. How Blessed we all were to have you as one of the finest and most devoted Officer's in America. You will live forever in our hearts and memories.
I Salute You, Mike with Love

To Mr and Mrs. Gordon:
I know the anniversary is coming tomorrow. I also know that you have been thinking about it for a couple of months. It all comes back with a vengence the day that Mike was taken from you. You start remembering so many things that happened that day and the days afterward. Don's anniversary is coming September 6 and I am starting to feel the pain and heartache from losing him and I know that you and your family are also experiencing it. I also feel that the world is going on without me. No one understands the lose of a child, only those who have experienced it.
May God bless you and your family and may He continue to give you comfort.

Remembering you and your family on your EOW. Time does not heal the pain in our hearts, but the memories of our children that we hold close to us help ease that pain.
You will forever be remembered as the true HERO you are.
God bless your mom and dad and continue to watch over them and walk with them everyday.
