An officer and his family/friends all know that they may not come home from work, yet each day we don our uniforms and head out to protect the flock (the citizens). This is a career that only a few desire yet is one of the most noble and honorable. We all grieve for Officer Garrett Swasey and his family and friends. May your hearts be healed and the good memories remain for he was a warrior--a Sheepdog protecting his flock.

For Police Officer Garrett Swasey:

Being in law-enforcement is a career filled with risks. For some of us who wear of badge the sudden confrontation with an armed lunatic becomes a stark reality. It happens right now - with no time to prepare and hardly the time to react. The results are often, as with our brother Garrett, deadly. We regret that he would be the next law-officer to make the ultimate sacrifice for a seemingly ungrateful public too often guided by a biased news media who have the facts too late or not at all. Any support for law-enforcement is drowned by reports of public resentment almost everywhere. Forgotten is the regular slaughter of cops across the country by human trash visibly in our midst - as if they present a threat to only the police.
We pray for Garrett's family, friends, co-workers and all who care about him. May they be ready to reach-out to one another at this solemn time.
We are proud to render to Officer Garrett Swasey, a soldier-of-the-law, a final salute.

This Brave Brother in Blue did what he needed to preserve life knowing he had a very high probability he would be seriously injured, if not killed. Unknowing, he rushed towards the fire to an unknown amount of threats with a higher probability of superior firepower. But, this "Man of Honor" needed to press the threat regardless to preserve life at the cost of his own. He pressing may have been what tipped the scales of the threat and caused him to barricade rather than continue. So his sacrifice is not in vain. Your duty and selflessness will be a learning model and teaching tool that will continue to save countless lives in years to come amongst your brethren and civilians alike. May God keep you know, you have most surely earned your wings, and may God comfort your loved ones in these most darkest of days.

"My Brother"

Although I never met him, I knew him.
He was idealistic and believed he could make a difference.
He was immensely proud of the uniform and the badge and what they represent.
He felt privileged to be of service to his department, his community and to his country.

He was a cop.

Although I never met him, I knew him.
He was friendly, courteous, and polite, yet firm.
He laughed and joked, but was serious when necessary.
He was competent, trained, and professional.

He was a cop.

Although I never met him, I knew him.
He had a strong sense of right and wrong and became
frustrated when true justice became sidetracked.
He felt the sharp criticism that goes with the job, but he
never wavered.
He stood by and for his fellow officers.

He was a cop.

Although I never met him, I knew him.
He longed for his family during the long hours.
He worried about them during his shifts and the lonely
weekends, holidays and midnights when they were apart.
He felt guilty about the lost time, but knew his calling
and prayed they would understand.

He was a cop.

Although I never met him, I knew him.
He was a good son, a loving husband, and a devoted father.
He was dedicated to the profession and cared about the
people he served.
He wanted to do the best job that he could and strived to
be the best he could be.
He was a good citizen and a good neighbor.

He was a cop.

Yes, I did know him.
He was a cop, he was my Brother.

Rest easy Brother Swasey, we have the watch...
