Reflections for Police Officer Keith Wayne Boyer

Officer Boyer was a great man, who served his country honorably. He will be forever remembered and honored by the Cadets at The Rio Hondo Police Academy.

Officer Boyer was an honorable officer, that went above and beyond the call. Even when the officer was more than honorably able to retired, the officer still served his city until the very end. Officer Keith Wayne Boyer sets an example of how police officers should carry themselves throughout their career.

God bless you, Sir. The City of Whittier has lost a truly brave soul. Thank you for your service to the city that is dear to me. I think of you every time I drive on the 605 Northbound, seeing the sign dedicating the freeway to you. You will never be forgotten.

God Bless you, Keith!
I think about you every single day. It is hard driving past Mar Vista on the way to the trail for my runs..remembering that day..helicopters flying overhead..I knew something so terribly different..so bad had happened. When we all heard the next day Whittier officer had been killed..I cannot describe it…but I had the ugliest, deepest feeling…I saw the picture WDN had shown..I did NOT want to believe it. It COULD NOT BE HIM! My eyes had surely deceived me. Not the officer who called in extra patrols for me while I was walking home late at night..telling me to make sure the right phone numbers were saved to my phone if I needed the police..not the man who told me. “I will follow you in your car (late at night an hour before Stater’s closed, so that I can catch that large stray dog so he doesn’t get hit by a car after catching me with a glum look on my face walking into the store parking lot..(cuz I had just spent several minutes trying to catch him, myself),then literally doing just that…following me to the last place I had been trying to collect the pooch about two miles away..because he loved people and animals just as much as I do!
I have so, so many wonderful memories locked in tight when it comes to you, Keith. Just about the worst of them all..and, I’d like to just lay this down right here so that I don’t have to carry it around with me in my head and my heart any damn longer because it is just too fucking heavy over these last many years…I am so sorry that the very last time I saw you outside of the Rite Aid that night..when it was raining…I saw you slowly pulling away and I did NOT come out to you to say Hello..which meant that I never really got to say…goodbye…and I just have the emptiest most disgusting feeling that has been replaying over and over in my head of you backing your SUV out backwards in the piss pouring rain…we don’t get much rain here..but I will be damned if it is t raining here today..and every damned time it rains…that’s the image I force myself to play over and over again like a bad movie. We go to your Fallen Hero Plaque outside WPD and pray often..not as often, anymore because it is a painful reminder…and I still have not been able to make it to your gravesite…might have to see you when I get there. Save me a seat..give my big bro a hug..he knows you, too!
Remember your last words you ever said to me were, “People are generally really good”…
PS I see that I was scrolling and felt compelled..of all days to look you up..I had no idea..what are the odds!!??? Hello, Keith! Thank you God for being so Good!

Keith. You are my childhood friend, my brother, my buddy. I was living in Abu Dhabi when you were so brutally taken. Though I was a half world away, our friends alerted me to your senseless murder before you even arrived in the ER. PLEASE FORGIVE ME...F@#k that bastard..may he rot in hell for eternity. He took my brother from me. When I was notified, I remember how we just spoke 3 days earlier when you told me we would have breakfast together one day at Scotty's. Im still waiting for you brah...chicken fried steak with biscuits and gravy. I love you brah..

Officer Boyer made a sacrifice that most people would never dare make. He went out and served the community for 27 yrs and I know for a fact changed many people's lives through out his time. It is unfortunate that someone would selfishly take the life of a Officer Boyer who was just trying to make the community he served safer for everyone. As I begin my journey into law enforcement the story of Officer Boyer has shown me that I should cherish every minute I have with my family because anything can happen in the blink of an eye. My condolences go out to Officer Boyer's family.
I did not have the honor of meeting Officer Boyer but with the amount of years with the department I must say that Officer Boyer had an amazing career. I strive to hopefully have a career like Officer Boyer. Thank you for your service.

Officer Boyer,

Your courage and dedication to the community and department will always live on. From what I’ve heard you were an amazing man who cared about his family deeply. I knew a relative of yours, Rachel. She and I used to work together and she spoke of you very highly.

You are an inspiration and a hero for all that you have done. As a recruit I can only hope to have an accomplished career as the one you had. You set a great example and role model that many hope to follow. My thoughts and prayers are always with your family. Thank you for your service

Officer Boyers passing in 2017 was a major wake up call or me, considering it happened down the street from where I grew up. This tragic event showed me that even though Law Enforcement does their best to better the communities they serve and protect the lives of others. Many people don't want them to succeed and will go to extreme measures to stop them from doing their job. This tragic event that officer Boyer had to go through in the line of duty taught me a valuable lesson. That the majority of Law Enforcement Officers are willing to go to great lengths to do their job even though they know that there are many people trying to stop them. My condolences go out to Officer Boyers family and fellow partners, the loss they went through is unbearable. The City of Whittier and all of Los Angeles County have suffered a great loss as well with this painful event.

On behalf of my family, I extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you suffered when Keith was killed.

To the Boyer family, fellow officers, and all who call Keith , my heart goes out to all of you and may you find comfort in your loved ones and your strength in your faith. When my son was killed, the entire law enforcement community in our area embraced us in a circle of love and support, and I know you will receive the same support. It makes the unbearable less torturous, and I pray for your solace. I hope that your family knows that a nation mourned for you.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the dedicated service Officer Boyer gave to his community and the citizens of California , and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on February 20, 2017.
