The news of Officer Chan’s death has deeply saddened me. The sacrifice that he made while protecting and serving your community is a testament to the selfless and courageous nature of law enforcement officers like him. We can never truly understand the risks and challenges faced by those in law enforcement, and we are forever indebted to them for their unwavering commitment to keeping us safe.
Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with Officer Chan’s family and colleagues during this immensely challenging time. Their loss is immeasurable, and we can only hope that the outpouring of support from the community can offer some comfort in these trying times.

To you, Commissioner Bethel, and the entire Philadelphia Police Department, I want to express my gratitude for the vital work you do each day, often in the face of danger and adversity. The sacrifice of your fallen colleague serves as a stark reminder of the dangers that come with your line of duty. Despite the risks, you continue to serve with integrity and unwavering commitment, and for that, we are immensely thankful.
Having served 46+ years as a Law Enforcement Professional, my family stands with you during this time of mourning. Please do not hesitate to reach out if there is anything we can do to support your fallen hero’s family, you, and your department during this difficult period.
May the memories of Police Officer Andy C. Chan be a source of strength and may his legacy inspire others to follow in his footsteps of honor and service. We will forever be indebted to the sacrifice he made to keep us safe.

As I look at the photos attached to your memorial, I realize the one is from the time that I flagged you down outside of my house when you were riding your wheel home from work. Of course, I had to get a photo of you, so I asked you to position the wheel a certain way because of the sun, and that required moving the 800 lb bike with you weighing in at 160lbs. Back and forth, back and forth until finally you said "F@&k it" and zoomed off to the bottom of the hill to come charging back up and put it the way I wanted lol! We worked in adjacent police districts, 35th and 39th, and went as representatives of the PPD for funerals in NYPD, Pittsburgh, PSP, DC Police Week, and, of course, for the fallen in our own department. Two days ago, I attended your funeral. I used to joke with you- you were the only person I knew who loved being a cop more than me.
