Reflections for Officer Tommy Richard Gober, Jr.
My husband and I knew Tommy in high school. He was such a sweet, funny and nice guy.If he didn't have a smile on his face, he had a famous smirk... I remember seeing him after he passed the police officers test. He was so excited and we were so proud for him. On a couple of calls where he had to work with the fire department, he worked with my dad who was a paramedic. He is still loved and remembered.

I have just found this site. My name is Autumn. Tommy was my uncle. His brother,Tim is my dad.I never got to meet him but my mom and my aunt would tell me about him all the time.I never knew that he had a daughter.I think that we are about the same age.I just saw that her name is Crysta. The only other Crysta that I have ever seen spelled that way is my best friend's daughter.I thought that was a pretty cool coincidence.I have always been told what a great guy he was and I just wanted to pay my respects.

Tommy Gober was popular among my fellow students at Towers High when he was a student there and later when served as the campus cop. Ricky Roseberry was similarly well-liked. It was terrible that Tommy was killed, but a blessing that he was with one of his best friends, a former classmate, and doing what he loved: protecting the citizenry of DeKalb County. The county has gone so far downhill over the years that we may forget how unusual and shocking his death was at the time, but we won't forget Tommy's smile and bright eyes.

A few days before Christmas I just wanted to reflect on my brother officer. I think about him always around June 28th, but also around Christmas. I too feel an emptiness. A hole in my heart that never heals but only scabs over and breaks when I think about him. I often wonder why God didn't take me instead. I just want all his family and friends to know I try to live a Godly Life. I try to make everyday count in appreciation of the sacrifice he made for me. I love you brother.

Tommy was a friend of my older brother and he lived at our house for a while. He was funny, smart, and a great practical joker, he would make our Mom laugh so hard she would cry. He could lighten up any room he entered. He always told us he was going to be a policeman and we would just say "right OK", and the next thing we knew he was! He was a great addition to anything he was involved in and is missed and thought about greatly! Crysta, I'm sure your Dad is proud of you and you should be proud of him! We lost an unreplaceable man that night that will never be forgotten! I'm sorry you never got to meet him.

I never knew this page was out there, but I am glad I ran across it. Tommy was my cousin, we grew up next door to each other. He was alot older of course but I truly looked up to him. I was always proud to claim Tommy as my family especially when he became the security officer at Tower's. He never let me get away with much, everytime he caught me on the "catwalk" he would run me back inside!
Once he became a police officer he would take me for a ride in his police car and I thought it was the coolest thing ever!
As time passed so did the distance, he married Elizabeth and they were expecting. I was never able to meet his child which I am sure is just like him. He was a special person in so many lives.
I will always miss Tommy, and miss his dad "big Tommy" & his brothers Ted & Tim. All of you are in my thoughts today some 28 years later.
I love you all

This is in response to a reflection previously left. Tommy was married to my mother Elizabeth King Gober and she was expecting me when he was killed.

It is very obvious that you were loved and respected! You made the ultimate sacrifice at a young age, and your service to your agency and community is appreciated and noted by many. Thank you! May God bless your family.

I did not know Tommy, but have heard many stories about him. I am married to his youngest brother Clay. Over the years the family has lost touch and i would very much like to reconnect. Clay and i and our children live in Decatur and wonder if Chrysta or any other children also live nearby. I would love to get in touch. Tommy gave the ultimate sacrifice and i would love to meet his family.

To Tommy's Family , no one can take away the lonliness and hurt of loosing a Loved one especially for givng his LIFE on the line... My sister Becky Godfrey and Eddie Godfrey worked with Tommy and others for Dekalb County for a long time and I have great respect for ALL COunty's of Officers , State Patrol. Fire Dept . and Marshalls.. He is in God's Hands today serving OUR Father God. We came very close to loosing Eddie Godfey who was burned over 70 % of his body and I don't know how we could have not survived with the love the force showed for him. If I can repay or do anything to help your family please let me know and I will. GOD BLESS AMERICA Deborah Cox and William Cox

After the 2 officer's from DeKalb were killed last Jan. 18th. I just happened onto this page. I remember Tommy from my childhood and teen years. Tommy was an awesome guy. He was a good friend. My daughter graduates the academy in June. She too has a dream of becoming one of Dekalb's Finest. I was proud of Tommy becoming a Dekalb County officer and I am proud and excited that my daughter (Corey) will be an officer soon. There has always been a special place in my heart for anyone that is willing to put their lives on the line in order to protect other's. Tommy, God Bless you and your family. I will keep you all in my prayer's. Thank you Tommy for giving the ultimate.
