Reflections for Police Officer Kyle Russell Ballard

Kyle-You were truly a hero in my eyes. You were an brave cop, a kind soul, and a true friend. I don't understand why you were taken from us. There were too many people here that loved you and needed you. You will never be forgotten. Rest in peace. Your friend. R.S.

To Laurie and the boys-
Laurie, I worked with Kyle and wanted to let you know what an outstanding, loyal, kind man he was. I cannot imagine the grief you are going through losing your husband and best-friend. We had a few conversations about children and being married. Kyle would glow with pride and happiness every time he talked about you and the boys. I could tell that his family meant the world to him. I know he is watching over you guys. You and the boys are in my thoughts and prayers. I truly am sorry for you loss.

I was told Kyle died from an enlarged heart. Although anyone who knew Kyle, knew he always had a Big Heart.

Who would have thought that the part of Kyle that made us love him; would take him from us.

I truly miss you,

kyle, i will miss you my friend. i will miss seeing you at your locker, next to me. I will miss the fact that everytime i passed you at your locker you would try to wrestle me and joke around. I always thought it was amazing that you were such a great officer, but still so humble. i appreciate, along with the other guys in our unit that you were always willing to help us learn the gang stuff, because YOU really wanted us to do well. i will miss you

I was hired as a civilian employee two months after Kyle started. Although I was not fortunate enough to see Kyle on a regular basis, each experience I had with him strengthened my feeling that he was an incredibly good-natured person of great character, and also with a great sense of and appreciation for humor. He treated everyone respectfully and had the wonderful habit of always saying hello to people by name, no matter how busy or rushed he was. I always enjoyed our encounters because he was so gracious, pleasant and positive every time. You couldn't help but enjoy the experience of just being around him.

Though I never knew you personally Kyle, I have known many like you. Young, hard working, all caring Police Officers willing to give all you had to get the job done. I left almost a full year before you came on the job and I truly regret that we never had a chance to meet. I know we would have worked well together and would have become great friends. God Bless you and care for you. Rest assured that all of us, and the Lord, will take care of your family for you.

I didn't know Kyle well as I was just "passing though" his life but I looked forward to seeing him in my classes and greatly appreciated his ready sense of humor.

Words cannot express the sorrow I feel for his wife and children, they bear a burden in his untimely passing that the rest of us will never truly understand.

Now he belongs to the ages and has all the answers to all of human kinds questions. And he awaits our arrival to brief us on our next Tour of Duty.

God Bless Kyle and his loved ones.

Kyle, you were a true warrior. Cops like you are far, few and in between. Anyone that knew you could attest to that. I dont know why you were taken so soon. Maybe the man upstairs decided he needed you on his force. Rest in peace brother, you will always be remebered and we will continue to fight crime as passionately as you did...

The Wife of a Baltimore City Police Officer

Our hero of blue has fallen
A time of peace is calling
For you to go with God above
He'll give you wings of blue with love
To send a message for everyone
To remember a life and what was done
A dream fulfilled of our angel of blue
We honor you for the job you swore to do
A promise was kept from a hero like you
You put your life on the line each day
To protect and serve in everyway
And to give you thanks we will do our part
To share your message and to keep you in our heart

For those who did not know Kyle, I thought I would share a little info. Kyle was a dedicated family man with a wife he adored and three young sons that meant the world to him. While not with his family, Kyle was giving 100 percent to his second family, the Pasadena Police Department. Kyle served as a patrol officer, worked four years in the Special Enforcement Section (working gangs, street narcotics, and as a member of the tactical team), and on the LA Impact gang task force. Kyle recently returned to patrol, where he was accepted as Field Traininig Officer and was due to attend FTO School in April of this year. Kyle was an example to all of us in his dedication to his family, his career serving the community of Pasadena, and to his friends. He touched many of us at the department and he will be missed greatly. We will always love and you we will never forget. We will make sure your sons know what a great man you were. Your friend, Buzz
