We are so sorry to here about your tragic loss of a loved one in law enforcement. Our thoughts and prayers go out to you in support. As we personally know, sometimes there is little comfort that comes from words. Keep focused as you can on the memories and joyous times for these things may bring you comfort. My most heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and fellow officers of Officer Ballard. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.
To his wife - I share your agony. I lost my husband 11 months ago in the line of duty and am left to raise 2 young children on my own. This is a very painful journey that none of us expected to take. Please take comfort in knowing that you do not walk this path alone, but with many, many others who have endured similar losses. The first few days, weeks and months are tremendously painful - please know that it will get better with time. Kyle will be your guardian angel now - he will look down on you and your boys, will guide and protect you as you continue on without him. Be strong. I am praying for you, as I pray for myself and my children.
Thank you, Officer Ballard, for your service and ultimate sacrifice. May God bless you and may you rest in peace, Blue Angel.

Police Officer

The policeman stood and faced God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining,
Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To my church have you been true?"
The policeman squared his shoulders and said,
"No lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry a badge
can't always be a saint."
I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.
But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at time I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.
If you've a place for me here, Lord,
It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't I'll understand.
There was a silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgement of his god.
"Step forward now, policeman,
You've born your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell"

Lord,
He was yours to give,
and yours to call home,
please stand by his brothers,
so they don't feel alone,
dry the tears of his family,
so they clearly see:
that he gave his all,
so all could have peace.
Blessed are they,
the children of God,
with heavy hearts,
and honor - they trod,
to pay their respects,
to give their salute,
and to ask for your mercy,
on heroes in Blue.
Amen.
Kyle, rest easy brother, we have the watch.
