Family, Friends & Fellow Officers Remember...

If you confess with your mouth that the Lord is Your God and believe in your heart that He raised you from the non-living, you will be saved. One day Officer Cook, we all have to face a time of reckoning and if we achieved success, we will be blessed, if not God-forbid the results will be catastrophic. Hopefully, only positive ramifications will take place and then we can finally all greet you with a cheerful smile as you so often displayed while being with us and taking the same breathes we take. A great teacher from two thousand years ago, Freely chose to show our maker's everlasting love for us by offering to take all of our flaws, darkness and mistakes into His very body. The result was that God invites us to believe this truth in our hearts and follow Him one day into eternal life. You have followed God Officer Cook and so too have twenty-thousand other fine men and women so brave and unique to risk their very lives to save us from terrible harm. If you have ever: questioned if this is all there is to life...wondered what happens when you die...felt a longing for purpose or significance...wrestled with resurfacing anger...struggled to forgive someone...known there is a "higher power," but couldn't define it...sensed you have a role to play in the world... experienced success and still felt empty afterward...then consider God. Hear my cry, O God; give heed to my prayer. From the end of the earth I call to You when my heart is faint; lead me to the rock that is higher than I, for You have been a refuge for me. No matter where we are, God can hear us from there! He loves to hear our hearts' prayers and draw near when we call to Him. We can hear your beloved soul Officer Cook, crying out for us, but God gives us the signal when He is ready for us to greet you once again. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but God's spirit itself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express. And He who searches our hearts knows the mind of God's Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with God's will. The saints being angels. And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.God calls all His angels for a purpose. You were summoned Officer Cook, for a reason and that was to protect officers down in this world from the evil that took your life in a wanton and callous manner. We say prayers each day to begin on a clean slate so to speak and to recognize our acceptance of your soul and its treasured beauty that one day we will see you again when the Messiah comes to redeem us all. Keep company with God, get in on the best. Open up before God, keep nothing back; He'll do whatever needs to be done: He'll validate your life in the clear light of day and stamp you with approval at high noon. God has given you, Officer Cook, not only His stamp of approval, but His seal of one too. I love the Lord because He hears my voice and my prayer for mercy. Because He bends down to listen, I will pray as long as I have breath! You prayed, Officer Cook and so did your comrades that you would pull through. God took you on a journey that never has an ending. He forever has your soul and that of other officers who were as brave and honorable as you in His midst surrounding Him as you stay by Him and watch over all officers in this world who risk their beings every day for us. God has a wonderful plan for each person he has chosen. He knew even before he created this world what beauty he would bring forth from our lives. Indeed this is true. If you look in the Old Testament, or in the Torah, the first three words of the Book of Genesis spell out like a finely written movie script, "In The Beginning." except this is not make believe. God created the heaven and the earth. The last letters of In The Beginning God created, spell out the word truth. Officer Cook, I'm sure you and Karen had an opportunity to either read or to discuss these words among your fellow church members. I know as faithful and as devout as you both were you believed with all your heart and mind that everything God did for you both was only done in truth. There is no such thing of course as someone passing in vain if they are a police officer who stood firm in their convictions. We say God is the Judge of truth. One day my neighbor, friend and hero, we all hope to come and glean the lessons for why such ignominious acts happen and why did this occur to you. Rest in peace. Anyone who aids another person and loses their life doesn't deserve to die. Death is a part of life and a life well lived deserves to be chronicled as your life certainly does. The county remembers all of its brave men and women once a year, I think perhaps a couple more times might be the right and noble thing to do.

The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth...He Himself gives all men life and breath and everything else...God did this so that men would seek Him and perhaps reach out for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each of us."For in Him we live and move and have our being." Every moment, every movement, every motion is a direct result of God's handiwork. Happiness, calamity, tragedy and joy occur from God. Police officers place their life's as you did Officer Cook in God's hands as He guides you on your way. We of course try to find solid reasons as to why God needed you to be with Him at such a young age when you had plenty more to contribute to our society. Every creature has a meaning and purpose on this earth and we should not lessen that foundation. Your purpose my neighbor, friend and hero was to serve and protect us from evil and to be our shield of which you performed your duties very masterfully. Rest in peace. One day the answers to all the questions will be forthcoming and have a giant exclamation mark over them.

Look up at all the stars in the night sky and hear Your father saying, "I carefully set each one in its place. Know that I love you more than these." Sit by the lake's edge, listening to the water lapping the shore and hear Your Father gently calling you to that place near His heart. If we are children of God, we have a tremendous treasure in nature and will realize that it is holy and sacred. We will see God reaching out to us in every wind that blows, every sunrise and sunset, every cloud in the sky, every flower that blooms and every leaf that fades. God wants us to grow up, to know the whole truth and tell it in love-like He is in everything. We take our lead from Him, he who is the source of everything we do. He keeps us in step with each other. His very breath and blood flow through us, nourishing us so that we will grow up healthy in God, robust in love. You grew up, Officer Cook as a robust young man with our the promises and potentials to really make a dent for a positive result in this world. And you never once disappointed anyone for a mere moment. It was always about how you could improve upon what you had already embarked upon. Your source of strength girded your loving family and provided your colleagues with an outlet in which to channel their concerns. You were always available for them any time any day. Now let us hope we can be their for them to look back and create an environment where we can give back, for what you gave to your community. Rest in peace my neighbor, friend and hero. Honor never grows old and honor rejoices the heart of age. it does so because honor is, finally, about defending those whose noble and worthy things that deserve defending, even if it comes at a high cost. In our time, that may mean social disapproval, public scorn, hardship, persecution, or as always, even death itself. The question remains: What is worth defending? What is worth dying for? What is worth living for? A Law Professional knows..... After all these years, Officer Cook, after your tragic line of duty death, we must reflect and look back at your outstanding career of public service to Dade County and its citizens. You were one of a few and yet proud officers who died in the line of duty answering a call you did not have to respond to, but chose to because of your unselfishness. Your bravery and courage was your testimony to the greatness that you so humbly achieved through hard work, sweat and dedication to succeed in a most desirable and fitting fashion.
